I. Legislative News and Activity

Executive Director Jim Pasco:
Spoke with Michael C. Stenger, Sergeant at Arms for the U.S. Senate, regarding State and local law enforcement involvement in protection of elected officials and continuity of government issues;
Spoke with Marino F. Vidoli, Assistant Director at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives (ATF), regarding the continuity of government issues;
Spoke with Jennifer S. Korn, Special Assistant to the President, regarding the response to Hurricane Florence.
National Sergeant-at-Arms Keith Turney and Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson represented the FOP at an event hosted by the Heritage Foundation entitled: Policing Strategy Summit. Speakers included Edwin Meese III, the 75th Attorney General of the United States.

Legislative Liaison Michael Martin and Legislative Liaison Marks participated in conference call with stakeholders regarding the nationwide Blue Alert program.

II. THIS WEEK IN CONGRESS
Action in the Senate

The Senate considered and passed H.R. 6, the “SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act” on a 99-1 vote, an opioid recovery, treatment and prevention package that included a number of FOP- backed bills. This legislation included language from the following bills:
H.R. 2851/ S. 1327, the “Stop the Importation and Trafficking of Synthetic Analogues (SITSA) Act.”
H.R. 5788/S. 3057, the “Synthetics Trafficking and Overdose Prevention (STOP) Act.”
S. 207, the “Synthetic Abuse and Labeling of Toxic Substances (SALTS) Act.”
S. 2789, the “Substance Abuse Prevention Act.”

III. UPDATE ON TOP LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES

C. Support H.R. 4846/ S. 2845, the “Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act”
One additional lawmaker has co-sponsored H.R. 4846 bringing our total to 54.
We have 7 co-sponsors on S. 2845.
